I don&#039;t think it will make the museum scene more commercial or open the doors for less conceptual art (though I guess it could)-- at least not for the time being. What I think Deitch&#039;s appointment signifies immediately is a shift in culture within art museums. If art museums take on folks with management backgrounds (as opposed to academic backgrounds) to serve as their directors, then there&#039;s an increased value in management experience and the elite academics will need to be utilized in some other way. 

Speculating in the long-term, this may mean increased accessibility of art and art history in museum environments, as these managers have the opportunity to provide a fresh perspective.
